What is Autism?

  • Also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), autism is a lifelong, neurological condition that affects each individual differently, in varying degrees of severity

  • ASD affects people of all races and socioeconomic status.

  • The incidence of ASD has been rising significantly. Most recent data by the CDC shows that 1 in 36 children have an ASD diagnosis.  ASD more likely to affect boys than girls.

  • Individuals with ASD may require different levels of support.

  • Appropriate interventions can play a key role in helping individuals with ASD to develop to their full potential. Although starting early is best, it's never too late to begin or resume therapeutic interventions.

  • ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art.
