•  Autism affects people of all backgrounds. ASD occurs across all racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic groups.

​​

•  Approximately 1 in 31 children is identified with autism. According to the CDC's latest report, released in 2025 using 2022 data, approximately 1 in 31 (3.2%) 8-year-old children across 16 monitored U.S. communities were identified with ASD. This is an increase from the previous estimate of 1 in 36.

​​

• Autism is identified more frequently in boys than girls. CDC findings indicate that boys are more than three times as likely as girls to be identified with ASD.

​​

• Support needs vary from person to person. Some individuals live independently, while others may benefit from ongoing assistance with communication, daily activities, education, or employment.

​​

• Early intervention can make a meaningful difference. Access to appropriate therapies, educational resources, and individualized support can help individuals develop skills and reach their full potential. While early intervention is beneficial, support and services can be valuable at any age.

​​

• Autism may occur alongside other conditions. Some individuals experience intellectual disabilities, attention difficulties, motor coordination challenges, sleep disturbances, or gastrointestinal concerns. Others may demonstrate particular strengths or interests in areas such as art, music, mathematics, technology, or visual learning.

At the Heart of Texas Autism Network (HOTAN), we believe every individual with autism deserves opportunities to thrive. Through education, advocacy, community partnerships, and family support, we strive to create a more inclusive and accepting community throughout Waco, McLennan County, and the greater 254 area.
